Brenna Ellison - professor of agribusiness
I am currently an Associate Professor and the Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University. My research program focuses broadly on how people make food choices, including what people choose not to eat, or waste. Some specific areas of research include:

  • How nutrition information (e.g., menu labeling, Nutrition Facts Panel) influences food choice
  • Influence of food labeling (e.g., organic, non-GMO, etc.) and marketing on food choice
  • Economics of food waste (When might it be rational, or even optimal, to waste food? What trade-offs are consumers willing to make related to food waste?)
  • The intersection between food waste and nutrition (How can we develop strategies that promote improved dietary quality AND food waste reduction?)
  • Food insecurity among college students
  • Consumer preferences for food and agricultural policy
